Nottingham MP Lilian Greenwood Visits Our Client FCC Environment's Green Energy Facility, Eastcroft, Nottingham

Glenn Ridsdale

The Eastcroft facility makes a significant contribution to reduce the city’s impact on climate change, having processed more than five million tonnes of waste to date.

During her visit, Ms Greenwood observed how the facility generates heat and power for thousands of homes and public buildings in the area, playing a key role in managing Nottingham’s waste more sustainably and providing an alternative to energy generated from fossil fuels. Ms Greenwood had a chance to take a closer look at how non-recyclable waste is processed into heat and steam to help meet Nottingham’s energy needs.

She commented: “It was fascinating to witness how FCC Environment uses household waste from city residents’ bins to generate steam which is then used to provide hot water, heating and electricity to thousands of homes and businesses across Nottingham. I was pleased to be reminded how waste that could have ended up in landfill is being used to reduce Nottingham’s reliance on fossil fuels to supply the city’s energy needs. Dealing with climate change is an absolutely critical issue for our generation and I am proud that there is a facility right here in Nottingham helping us to tackle it.”

FCC Environment’s General Manager, Tony Cox said: “I am delighted to have welcomed Lilian to our facility to showcase the work that FCC Environment is doing. Energy from Waste plants demonstrate our commitment in the fight against climate change and the recovery of renewable energy is key part of what we do at FCC Environment.”
