Gauged Solutions Support An Excellent Midwifery Initiative

Glenn Ridsdale

By way of sponsorship - Gauged Solutions have recently supported midwifery students studying at York University in receiving excellent addittional training during their degree programme.  As a result, one of the student midwives sent us a very kind letter of thanks. Please read on...........Thanks Jenifer, super effort by you and your colleagues..

Hello,

My name is Jennifer Friel, I am a second year Student Midwife and President of the University of York Midwifery Society.

Gauged Solutions have become an invaluable support to our society. Gauged Solutions have provided essential sponsorship for our study days. Most recently they sponsored our Infant Loss two day conference which provided fifty student midwives with the much needed training to enable them to provide appropriate care to those families suffering, still birth, miscarriage and infant loss. These study days are vital, I was myself nine weeks into my training before I unfortunately had my first encounter with stillbirth.

I wouldn’t receive bereavement training until the end of my third year. I was instantly out of my depth, and unbale to provide the family with the support they needed. I knew immediately I needed more training. Seventeen babies are stillborn everyday in the UK, so it is inevitable that we as student midwives and qualified midwives will look after a family suffering infant loss at some stage in our careers. With the support of Gauged Solutions fifty student midwives are now better able to look after these families in a time of incredible sadness and stress.

To be able to hold the two day conference has been so beneficial and the impact of the day will be long-lasting and far-reaching!!!! The study day has received overwhelming appreciation and positive feedback, we had student midwives travel from London just to receive this training!!!

Gauged Solutions haven’t stopped there, they continue to support our campaign to raise money for our chosen charity of the year, 4Louis. 4Louis provide memory boxes for parents who suffer the death of a child through, miscarriage, stillbirth, neo natal, or infant loss up to the age of 16. They also supply moses baskets, photography equipment and cuddle cots also known as a cold cot, this specialised piece of equipment is designed to keep baby cool to allow parents to spend more time with baby. All of 4Louis’s services are free of charge, and funded solely by donations and fundraising events. They receive no government funding.

We look forward to working closely and further with Gauged Solutions and hope to run more study days on a variety of topics with their help to support and educate student midwives.

We have been overwhelmed by their kindness and generosity. Gauged Solutions have become a valued member of our society and we are forever grateful for their support both financially and emotionally. They have truly invested themselves in the ethos of the Midwifery Society -  “To practise the art of Midwifery, through empowered education”.

Thank-you very much,

Jennifer Friel.
