As part of the National Oilwell Varco corporate behavioural safety programme - Capture Zero, Gauged Solutions were engaged by NOV to review and critically evaluate the safety culture one of their manufacturing facilities in the North East of England. The facility employed in excess of 500 members of staff working on a shift pattern basis.
The terms of our engagement were to evaluate the prevailing safety culture within the business by using proven psychological scientific techniques, comprising semi structured interviews with staff, focus groups, workplace observations and the use of a bespoke safety climate questionnaire. The information was all triangulated to produce an in depth management report highlighting the areas of cultural excellence, but also to focus on where a pin pointed improvement programme could be developed to enhance and drive the safety performance and indeed culture within the manufacturing facility.
The consultancy work was conducted by both Asgeir Nilsen and Glenn Ridsdale of Gauged Solutions. Further training courses were designed, development and delivered to take the workforce through the findings of the cultural assessment of the business, and indeed to help further equip the supervision and management team with greater safety leadership and transactional skills.
The successes from this programme was so positive, we have developed a long term business relationship with the company and further work has been awarded to Gauged Solutions including accident investigation training, understanding human factors and leadership coaching and mentoring.
